Garbage is scheduled for pickup each Tuesday. Each house has been provided a garbage container. See https://www.cityofmobile.org/public-works/household-garbage-pickup/ for household garbage collection policies.
Trash pickup is scheduled for every other Friday. Trash is defined as tree limbs, tree/yard debris, discarded furniture, and bedding. Trash must not be put out more than 48 hours in advance and must not impede street or sidewalk traffic. See https://www.cityofmobile.org/public-works/residential-trash-pickup/ for trash collection policies.
You can also call 311 to have larger items such as appliances picked up between trash pickups.
There are three single stream recycling centers operated by the City of Mobile. Their website is https://www.cityofmobile.org/public-works/recycling/. Single stream means you do not have to separate your recycling into different types such as paper, plastic, or aluminum when dropping it off. They currently don't accept glass. The closest location to Inverness, about 6.5 miles away, is in Langan park at 4851 Museum Rd. across from the Mobile Museum of Art in the parking lot of the Board of Education. Another single stream recycling center is at 310 Pinehill Dr, Mobile, AL 36606, which is off Airport Blvd a mile east of I-65 and about 7 miles from Inverness. The third and newest center is at 1750 Dauphin Island Parkway between Faye Street and Magnolia Lane about 9 miles from Inverness.
Mobile County 251-459-8426 also operates a Recycling Center at 7450 Hitt Rd, Mobile, AL 36695. Their website is https://mobilerecycles.com/. Hitt Rd. is reached going north on Hillcrest, west on Grelot, north on Cody, then left at the Hitt Rd light. This recycling center is not single stream so that you have to separate your recycling into bins by type.
